How to Type a Story into a Word Document

During tonight’s class, we learned how to make a “vodcast.”  I made the following vodcast for my students to use in the classroom.  In the next couple of months, we will be typing at least one of our stories.  This video will show how I want them to type it.

On Friday, all students at Dixie may bring in a stuffed animal to have with them during the day.

Various Mexican Music

View a video of a mariachi festival in Guadalajara, Mexico.

This is  a rather long video, but it has some music from the indigenous people of Mexico.  It’s neat to see all of the various instruments.  Look for the instrument made out of a turtle shell.

Here are some music and dances from various areas in Mexico.

This is a video of Juanes, who is at the top of the Latin Pop charts in Mexico.  The beginning of the video has a short interview with the hostess of the program.  The song is “Gotas De Agua Dulce.”  (I think that means “A Drop of Sweet Water.”)  I think it’s really good!

Focus of the Week: Mexico

Well, I thought since we’re all just sitting at home yet again, I would give my kids (and you) something to do.  This week, we began our unit on Mexico and Canada.  We will be learning more about Mexico this week and next week in class, so I thought I would give the kids a head-start.  Below you will find various information about Mexico.

Ferdinand the Bull

Well, I am very excited!  I just discovered that Walt Disney made a short movie of the book, The Story of Ferdinand.  Even better, it’s on YouTube!  Here it is.  Hope you and your child enjoy it.  (Mr. Fields remembered seeing it as a kid.  I do not.)

Bully for Bugs

A few weeks ago, we read one of my favorite books, The Story of Ferdinand by Munro Leaf. I had told the children that I would show them the Bugs Bunny episode where he plays a matador. However, I couldn’t find my DVD to show them. I found the video on YouTube, but unfortunately, I cannot show them at school. (YouTube won’t work there, AND the video is pretty violent, in true Bugs Bunny form.  Be prepared - there are guns, bullets, and bombs.) So here is the video. I hope you and your child enjoy it. It is truly one of my favorites!

Snow Day Again!!!

I just wanted to thank all of you for making our half day go so smoothly yesterday.  Half days are ALWAYS so stressful for me.  I have to call each and every parent, and the poor kids have to be quiet and work on boring worksheets.  I need to tell you that every one of my students were PERFECT.  They worked so hard and kept quiet while I was on the phone.  I promised them extra recess, so we’ll have to get it on Monday!  I might have to bring in a treat as well.  :-)

I hope all of you are safe and well this cold, icy day.  Have a great weekend!

Podcasting

Tonight in my class, we learned about something very new for me.  This is called podcasting.  I can record my voice and then share it with you on my blog or website.  Click below to hear my podcast.  (This one is NOT exciting - please stay tuned for more exciting fare.)

A Nice Welcome Back…

Well, I had a very nice day back to school!  I was so ready to be back, and the kids were very welcoming.  They did a pretty good job for me today.  I think they were a little better for the sub, so I am not sure what to think about that!  :-)  However, they asked really good questions about the surgery, and we ended the day very strong.

I wanted to thank all of my kids and parents who sent in things for Valentine’s Day.  I just got them today, and they got very mixed up!  I am so sorry that I really cannot tell who did what!  Regardless, I really loved everything.  I do have the best parents and students!

Fun Dinosaur Sites for Kids

Well, I promised a different “focus” for each week, so I thought today’s focus would be dinosaurs. This is a subject that most kids seem to enjoy, and sadly, it is a subject I am not allowed to teach. (Kids do not officially learn about dinosaurs or the planets until middle school!) Therefore, I thought I’d provide you with some fun sites to explore.

 Manty Web Dinosaurs
