My math classes are learning about prime factorization as it applies to simplifying fractions. I thought this comic tied in nicely for a little math humor J

Progress Reports

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

Progress Reports are coming out this week!  Please remember that your child CAN turn in late work.  Before the end of each unit I give students a print-out of any missing assignments.  I will collect their late work until the end of the unit.

In math, we have completed our first unit and taken the test.  We are now in the midst of fractions!!

In pre-algebra, we have completed our first unit and are actually almost finished with the second.  Pre-Algebra students will be having their second chapter test on Friday of this week!  Please remind them to study, and you can sign their study guide for them to receive extra credit.

Thanks!

I just wanted to thank all of the Pharaoh families who came out to the Open House on Tuesday night!  It was wonderful to get to meet so many of you - despite being so rushed!

On a side note, I wanted to let everyone know that I have been out of the classroom since the night of Open House.  My three year old was sick, asleep behind my desk that night.  I had hoped things would turn around by morning, but they did not.  I have been home with him this week; but for those of you who asked specific requests of me on Tuesday night, I promise I am working on them :)

Math students will be having their first test on Tuesday September 9th.  They will be coming home with a review sheet on Friday.  Topics include problem solving, order of operations, exponents and square roots, algebraic expressions and equations, properties, sequences, and scientific notation.  All sections of Chapter One (excluding section eight on the metric system) and the first two sections of Chapter Eleven will be on the test.

Pre-Algebra students will be having their first test on Monday September 8th.  They will be coming home with a review sheet on Friday.  Topics include problem solving, order of operations, algebraic expressions and equations, properties, orderd pairs and graphing, and scatter plots.  All sections of Chapter One will be on the test.

PLEASE ENCOURAGE YOUR CHILD TO STUDY THIS WEEKEND!  IF THEY STUDY WITH AN ADULT IN THE HOME AND HAVE THAT ADULT SIGN THEIR REVIEW SHEET, THEY CAN EARN FIVE EXTRA CREDIT POINTS ON THEIR TEST SCORE!

Open House

Friday, September 5th, 2008

All students’ families are invited to the JCMS Open House on Tuesday September 9th.  The doors to the school will open at 6:00 pm.  From 6:00-6:20 families can visit the book fair set up in the library or the informational tables in the cafeteria.  At 6:20 the team areas will open so that parents can pick their childs’ schdules.  At that time parents will go through a typical school day.  They will have a chance to meet with each of their child’s teachers.  We hope to see each of our students’ families represented.

*Note: This Open House is designed for adults.  Students should not be present, if possible.
