Attention Parents and Guardians!
Eastern will be running a contest collecting box tops. Send in as many as you can!!!
See rules below.
Here are the contest rules.
- Gather box tops in your class.
- Make sure to cut out each one. Get a volunteer to do that.
- Put them in snack or sandwich size ziplock bags in groups of 50. Make sure that they are all 10 cents. Some are of greater value and they need to be in a separate bag.
- Each week put ONLY bags of 50 in a large (gallon) bag with your name and put it in the Boxtop collection box in the front of the school. If you don’t have 50, please wait until you do.
- The Boxtop coordinator will gather the bags and record the amount submitted. She will then post the result in a display that she is going to create in the front hall.
- The contest starts now and will end May 1st.
- The winner will receive a pizza party and a new computer.
In order for us to replace the old computers with new, we need approximately $13, 500 which is 135,000 boxtops. There are 23 classes (4 Kindergarten). If each call collects 6000 boxtops, we will more than reach our goal. Set up incentives for your own class.

ATTENTION!!!
Starting this week your child will be bringing home their very own alphabet ring. On the ring you will find letters that we have introduced in class. Each week a new letter will be added as we cover that letter.
Please drill your child nightly asking them to correctly name the letter and its correct sound. (If you have questions regarding correct sounds of letters please see the previous post regarding letter sounds.)
Alphabet rings are to be returned to school daily as I will be testing children at different points throughout the week with their personal ring. I will be keeping track weekly of which students have mastered each letter. Please continue to practice all letters, even those you believe your child already knows so that no letters or sounds are forgotten throughout the year.
Thanks and keep practicing!!!
Correct Phonics Sounds
During our year in Kindergarten we will be working very hard to develop your child’s phonics abilities. When teaching phonics (letter sounds) it is extremely important to make sure that we are teaching our children the correct pronunciation of each letter sound. Below you will find a chart that will help you to ensure that you are practicing the correct sound for each letter with your child.
Remember…Practice makes perfect! The more practice your child recieves the better their phonics and reading skills will grow!
***Letter sounds DO NOT have the -uh sound at the end. For example, the correct sound for d will not sound like duh.***
The letter makes the sound that it makes in the pictures and words below.
