Monday!!

Filed under: General — mgiles at 6:33 pm on Monday, May 24, 2010

Oh and what a Monday it has been!!!
Our email system went through a whole new change over the weekend. If I didn’t respond to something you sent on Friday or over the weekend that is why ~ we couldn’t get on and it deleted any previous emails.  My new login has (of course!!) contracted a virus along with it, so my email today has been scarce.  I am so sorry if I did not respond to something you sent - if I didn’t that means I did not receive it. Hopefully the problem will be resolved tomorrow but you never know! :) SORRY!

Today we had a pretty good day! The kids are getting more and more excited about the end of school ~ and some of their behavior is reflecting it! Please help me and remind your child that we are still learning even with only 7 days left!! We have a lot of fun things planned for the rest of the school year and I hope each child gets to participate!!

*CiCi’s is tomorrow! We will be walking there right after lunch and will review fractions and measurement while making our own pizza and eating it! We will return before specials.

Today the students reviewed probability in math, worked on writing short stories or poems and published them, and made up chants to memorize the regions of KY.

Have a wonderful night! ~ Mrs. Burton

WOWOWOWOW!!! What a wonderful “Just Because You’re You Day”!! THANK YOU for your wonderful kind words to your sweet kids! They absolutely loved the day! The letters were so fun for the kids to read.

Have a wonderful weekend! ~Mrs. Burton

**I told the kids IF THEY WANTED to dress special tomorrow they could! But by no means am I telling them they have to!! I have not told them about the day yet!

We had a great day of performing our plays (they were awesome!!) doing some reading and writing work, and doing our BEST on the Reading MAP test. I can’t wait for the kids to come and show you their scores tomorrow!

Wednesday!(Make sure to check the Wednesday Folder!)

Hope everyone enjoyed their kid-day yesterday!!
Thank you so much to those of you who have sent in letters for the big day! I worked on things yesterday and I think all the kids are going to have a great time reading their letters!!

This morning we worked very hard on multiplication and division for math time.  A lot of the kids are still struggling when it comes to numbers 6,7,8,9.  Any additional work at home would be great! I did not give HW tonight on it due to us testing for MAP all week.  I know it takes a lot out of them and I want the kids to do their best!!

We also worked on grammar, vocabulary, and word recognition in reading. Most students did very well. Some students (I believe) rushed through missing important questions like antonym and synonyms of words because when we went back through the students immediately got the right answer.  We’ll be reviewing this more again tomorrow.  We also did a couple of inference activities in reading.

Lastly, the students finished up writing their plays based on a popular children’s story.  I think they plays are going to be great! Next they designed their backdrop ~ so creative!! Students will perform these plays tomorrow after MAP.

*MAP Reading test is tomorrow. Please remind your students to do the best they can!
*A new field trip slip is in the Wednesday Folder for the Legends game. It is due back May 24th.

****I JUST bragged to my sister about how well my kiddos handle Silly Bands, well wouldn’t you know today was the first problem we’ve had all year!!! Isn’t that the way it goes?! I have told the kids I think the bands are great, but when it becomes a problem with trading them or distracting them they become mine. :)

Have a great night!

Good Afternoon!
*Please remember ~ there is NO SCHOOL tomorrow for the kids.

Today students took their first Spring MAP test - math.  Let me tell you, it was HARD! But I am sooo proud of the kids! We had almost our entire class improve their scores! We also had several proficient and distinguished kids.
The cool thing about this diagnostic test is that the students see their score as soon as they finish.  Today we filled out our MAP grid and goal sheet. Most of the kids were super excited to see how far they’ve come.  The students also looked at what their Winter MAP scores were for Reading and Science to get them ready to beat those scores on Thursday and Friday.
**Please make sure we are clear that I am talking about MAP and not the CATS test. I certainly have no idea what those scores are and none of us will know until Fall of 2010.

Have a great night and a good ‘extra’ day with your kids tomorrow.
*THANKS for all the packages I received today! ;) Friday is going to be great!

FUN DAY!!! :)

We had a great day!

We started off by watching a Bike Safety video for Ms. Timaji.  Then we worked on our Fun Day packet and watched Cars (rated G) while we did a physical activity challenge!

Next we enjoyed lunch and Popsicles together! :)

Then we got to participate in all the Fun Day activities.  We rotated to 6 different stations. It was so fun!

Then we got to watch another movie Ms. Timaji provided us with!

Lastly we had Kite Day. The kids had so much fun!

Have a great weekend and don’t forget to send or email me the letters! :)

*thanks!

Thanks for your patience for the Late Dismissal!!  The one good thing about rain in the summer is at least it’s warm when the drops hit you! :)

Hopefully all the car riders and bus riders made it safe and sound at home through the rain.  I walked with the walkers ~ thank you parents who were waiting at the top of the hill with umbrellas! We had to use our manners with ‘girls first’ for my little umbrella this afternoon!

Thursday!

We are REALLY REALLY REALLY hoping that Fun Day is still going to be tomorrow…but the weather is not promising :( .  If not, it is rescheduled for next Friday– uh oh!!!! Our Special Day may have to be moved, although I am praying HARD that the rain holds off until 2:35!  *Stay Posted on what we may do…

Today I had most of my kids turn in the math HW, yay! Those students were rewarded with math game time.

We went with a Nike theme today. We reviewed writing, reading, math, and economic skills all wrapped up in our Nike theme.  Wait until you see your child’s advertisement and new brand of Nike shoes ~ I want to purchase theirs!! :)

The Best Faith Effort Party was this afternoon as well.  I had a lot of students get to participate and I am so happy about that!! We had a super fun hour filled with a Limbo Contest, Follow the Leader Dancing, and the Cha Cha Slide.  Needless to say, our kids were very active today!  CONGRATS to Kendrick who won not only the Burton class Limbo but the ENTIRE 4th Grade class Limbo!!! He’s one talented young boy!! YAY!

Today there is no HW but to read 20 minutes.  Maybe outside?

Please remember to send your child with a towel, clothes that he/she can get dirty in, sunscreen, and a hat tomorrow…and pray it doesn’t rain!!!

Have a good night! ~ Mrs. Burton

Wednesday!(Make sure to check the Wednesday Folder!)

The Granny Awards play was sooo cute! Hope you can come out tonight and watch it! Our homeroom kids did AWESOME!!!

FYI:
*Fun Day is Friday ~ please send with your child: sunscreen, a hat, play clothes, a towel, and tennis shoes.
*Please turn in money and the CiCi’s field trip slip soon!
*Tomorrow afternoon is our Best Faith Effort party
*Don’t forget about Special Day letters to me if you have them ready!!!

HW:
Students have 8 problems in math to complete, show you, and get signed by you.  I was quite surprised at students who were having a LOT and I mean a LOT of trouble adding and subtracting large numbers. Yikes! We will have to work on that more!!

Students should be continuing reading 20 minutes per night.

Have a great night!
