This week students start “Reducing the Risk” or better known as Sex Education. The first few lessons will be over the reproductive systems. They will then learn about the menstrual cycle and pregnancy. They will be vewing a video called “The Miracle of Life”. This video shows all of the stages of an unborn fetus and the birth of the baby.

Students completed chapter 13. Students viewed a video that showed clips from the Columbine shooting. We discussed their reactions and how they felt about their own safety here at BCHS.

Teen Violence was this weeks unit. For homework students were to complete a worksheet that required them to interview three adults about bullying. This was a great insight for students. We had a group discussion and they shared their findings with the class.

Students were in the computer labs researching a mental disorder. Friday they will be completing thier papers and starting chapter 13. The students will have a subsitiute teacher tomorrow. Classes will be in the computer lab for half of the block finishing up and printing papers. The other half of the block will be spent on vewing a video on bullying. The students will be given a guide worksheet to complete while watching the video.

This week students are only in school Wednesday through Friday. Wednesday and Thursday students will be going to the computer lab to research and type a small research project over Mental Disorders.  They will be given a rubric to help them complete this project.

Students are testing over chapter 7 and will be taking a stress test after they complete their assessment. My objectives are for them to analyze different stressors in their lives and make an action plan to assist them in dealing with that stress.

This week we are finishing chapter 7 and moving into chapter 8. Students have completed their PowerPoint and are preparing for their test. I have used to Flashbacks from chapter 6 this week and one checkpoint. The checkpoint questions was: “What have they learned up to this point that you have found most useful in day to day living?” I collected some great feedback from this checkpoint. Many students found the Nutrition Fact Labels the most useful information so far in my class. Many of the students mentioned the Nutrition unit for the most part.

Students complete their “True Colors” activity on Friday. I was very pleased with the enthusiasum of the students. They were very interested in their own personality profile and others. This was  great activity for this chapter.

Today students took a personality test where they answered different questions about themselves. This self assessment was a tool used in class to help students understand their personality and how they interact with other personaliies. Tomorrow they will review a PowerPoint where they will view different insights of their own personality. This personality activity is called “True Colors”. So far the students seemed to really enjoy filling out their sheets.

Students are completing a study guide today. This study guide is worth a test grade of 100 points. Students will also view an episode of Dr.Phill over anorexia nervosa. The students seem to be interested in the different eating disorders and how they affect people pschologically. I hope this chapter helps students realize how important proper nutirion is in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
