The class had a great time at the Explorium.  They got to do 2 experiments and then look at all the other exhibits.  They really had fun in the bubble room and the fun house mirror was a riot.  They also enjoyed playing in the water (explaining locks and dams) and the Indian village.  Shonna got some great pictures which I hope to share with you.

I was glad to see many of you at the Thanksgiving dinner Friday night.  For those of you who could not make it, we can have an encore presentation of the jokes at the breakfast on Tuesday.

Hope to see you there.

Have a great Thanksgiving.

The Physics presentation on Monday was great.  Ask your child about the new hairdo Claire had that day.  The students got to do about 8 demonstrations and had a great time.  Their favorite seemed to be the hovercraft made out of a leaf blower.  Ask Dr. Elvidge for the plans because it would make a great Christmas gift!

The students are very excited about the field trip on Wednesday and about presenting their jokes at the Thanksgiving dinner on Friday.  They have done a great job again on their Bible review verses.  They are also learning a lot about the Pilgrims by reading our current reader, Pilgrim Boy.

The Physics program on Monday should be great and we are looking forward to that. It is always beneficial to do hands on Science.

Also, we have a field trip scheduled for Wednesday, November 19, at the Explorium.  Attached is a copy of the field trip form if you need that.

Thank you for coming in for the parent teacher conferences.  I love your kids and appreciate your support!

Tomorrow is our mock election.  I am encouraging our class to dress in red, white and blue.  Everyone probably has navy pants and the shirt does not have to have a collar.  Let’s be patriotic! Don’t forget to vote tomorrow!

I could use a few donations for the classroom.  Our electric pencil sharpeners are ill.  If someone would like to take a look and see if they can be fixed, I can send them home with your child.  Otherwise, we could use a new electric pencil sharpener.  Also, we are working so hard that we could use 12 more fine point expo markers.  These would be greatly appreciated.

I am looking forward to meeting with each of you for parent conferences.

Wet pumpkins and hanging chads…

I’m sorry that we were rained out of Boyd’s Orchard on Friday.  However we had some special things to do instead.  First, we had an awesome chapel service.  I hope your children told you about the Jesus pumpkin that Mrs. Padget’s brother carved.  It was beautiful and he had a good lesson to go with it.  Then since we did not go to the field trip I tried to do a few extra activities with the class in the afternoon.

The teachers are planning to hold a school-wide mock election on Tuesday, November 4.  The students have already registered to vote and we will be talking about the voting process for the next week or so.  I will not go into the hanging chads, etc., etc. etc. - just the basics.  I would appreciate it if you would discuss with your child how you will vote and why.  They seem very excited to vote.

Also, I will be calling each of you to schedule a parent-teacher conference next week.  The students have worked hard this nine weeks and you should be proud of them!

My husband and I saw the movie “Fireproof” yesterday.  It is a Christian film about marriage.  I highly recommend it - it was great!  I hope you take the opportunity to go.

Hebrews 11:7-11

Everyone got 100% on their review verses this week.  I gave 3 helps if necessary but some students didn’t even need one!  They are doing a great job in their memory work.

WCS Retreat

We had a beautiful day on Friday at Bluegrass Christian Camp.  The students were very well behaved and I think they had a great time.  It was refreshing to spend the day in God’s creation having fun, but hopefully learning some spiritual lessons as well.  The students were divided into groups to complete at least 6 out of 10 “challenges.”  The groups were made up of different ages instead of by grade, so that made things interesting and maybe more challenging. We also enjoyed breakfast, lunch and a short chapel service. On the bus ride back third grade challenged first grade to a sing-off.  So much for learning to work together!  Many kudos to Mrs. Padgett and Mrs. Meadows for organizing this event.

P.S.  If you’re wondering why your child came home with leaves in their hair and clothes,  the picture above should explain.  This was not one of the organized challenges, they made this one up!

Science

We finished our Science unit on the senses.  The class did very well on their first unit test!! We are starting to learn about plants.  Ask your children about our experiments with celery (a plant stem), and what we are doing with bean seeds.  Next week I plan to do an experiment with bread and a sweet potato.

Penmanship Grades

Penmanship is not graded A, B, C, D, or F.  We use E for excellent, G for good, S for satisfactory or U for unsatisfactory.  For this reason the grades are not posted on Teacherease.
