Two Great Days
As I sat reflecting on Kentucky’s near upset of Alabama, a thought came to me. “Reflect on something positive and happy, Cara.” Therefore, I chose to reflect on my past two days - Thursday and Friday. Thursday was the culmination of a lot of planning and work for Mrs. Padgett and me, and the catalyst for some spiritual things in our middle school students.
When we arrived at BGCC, we headed for the Low Ropes Course. It was very interesting watching the students work through some challenges together. Their toughest lesson was listening to direction. They made simple challenges more difficult by not following directions. I’m glad it’s not just in my class. They also learned that some of the best ideas come from the quietest members. Loud and vocal doesn’t always equal good decisions and good leadership. That night we worshiped God through singing praises of truth and listening to God’s Word. Did you know God cares about what you wear? If you don’t believe me, read Colossians 3:12-14 then ask a middle school student. We finished our night with roasted marshmallows and smores around a campfire. Well, we had smores after Mr. Fraley unlocked his van with a wire coat hanger. It was a bummer he locked his keys in the van. It was even more of a bummer because that’s where our graham crackers were being stored. After we had our fill of marshmallows, chocolate, and graham crackers, it was off to bed. You’ll be happy to know we donated our left-over campfire supplies to the camp for future use. What I didn’t realize was the future was just hours after we went to bed when a local “bandit” let himself into the kitchen and ate the chocolate, candy, and graham crackers. If you see him, please contact Crime Watch. He’s been described as small and furry with beady eyes, a dark mask around his eyes, and bushy tail with stripes.
Morning came early, and we ate a wonderful breakfast with the rest of our school. Friday was a great day, too! It was so fun watching groups of our students from every grade working together, playing together, and just having fun together. What a great lesson to learn - every person matters and can contribute. I saw eighth graders leading first graders. I saw students leading teachers carrying marshmallows. I saw our school leading a generation to learn what it means to be a part of God’s kingdom. Our students learned some valuable lessons while having lots of fun! And I got to drive a golf cart and play with a microphone. It was great day!
The day ended with the Fall Carnival. My energy had been depleted, but I enjoyed watching my daughter slide down the inflatable slide fifty times in two hours. This is such a great event to not only raise money for our school, but to demonstrate unity as parents pull together to do something special for our students. This whole theme of working together for a greater calling was in every action, song, message, and activity Thursday and Friday.
Now I get to look forward to another great moment in my life - Wednesday, the day Keegan Elvidge throws a pie in my face. Thank you to all those who paid for that chance… I think. And Keegan, please go easy on me. I’m fragile.

Harlan County Clothes Update
Wow!! We are filling up boxes and filling up my room with clothes. It has been so exciting hearing from students and parents concerning the opportunity God has placed before us. We have students who are giving up birthday gifts or the chance for a new toy and using that money for new clothes for students in Harlan County.
We are doing well on sizes. We have more boys’ clothes than girls’. I’ll give you an update on sizes later this week.
Again, thank you to those who have already donated and those planning to donate.
We will have donation boxes available at the Fall Carnival. Feel free to bring clothes that night.
