We will be starting our novel unit next week.  Please be looking to make sure your child is bringing home their books on a daily basis after spring break.  It is really important that they keep up with the novel, as most of this quarter's assessments will come from the book.  Students will also be keeping a "Sea Log" of journal responses to prompts I give them in class. Go Dixie Dolphins!  Our K-Kids Club  just participated in Bowl for Kids' Sake at Southland Bowl.  We raised over $500 to give to Big Brothers Big Sisters.  I think the kids had a good time, even though our lanes didn't have bumpers.  Needless to say, we had lots of gutter balls, but lots of fun!  I even got to bowl with them!  So proud of their efforts and a great time! .. Fossil Lesson - Posted to Dr. Thompson's Blog

The other day I had the opportunity to teach a lesson on fossils to a first-grade class.  The kids were divided into pairs.  An assistant and I placed rocks wrapped in newspaper on the desks.  We distributed rock-cleaning tools such as small paint brushes, wooden toothpicks, and toothbrushes.  The pairs each got a magnifying lens, too.  after some introduction statements, the kids unwrapped the rocks and started to clean off any dried mud.  They soon began to spot the fossils..
